Are The Oscars FINISHED? | Nerdrotic And The Critical Drinker With Piers Morgan

Piers Morgan is joined by @nerdrotic, @TheCriticalDrinker, Ava Santina and Esther Krakue to discuss the 2024 Oscars.

The showdown between Oppenheimer and Barbie sparked debates about the state of Hollywood and the changing landscape of the film industry. While some praised Oppenheimer for its craftsmanship and performances, others criticized it for being too long and self-indulgent. The Critical Drinker noted that Oppenheimer’s success may have been a result of a lacklustre year in terms of quality films, making it the best choice among the competition.

As the dust settles on the 2024 Oscars, it’s clear that Hollywood is at a crossroads, grappling with issues of diversity, representation, and audience engagement.

The decline of Hollywood glamour was evident at Oscars, as Nerdrotic told Piers Morgan that host Jimmy Kimmel had a cringe-worthy moment when he read a tweet from former President Trump roasting him, highlighting the lack of humour and entertainment that plagued the event.

Ava Santina said the Oscars once again appeared to leave women out of the conversation due to a lack of wins for Barbie, “a lot of the time men don’t think that it’s worth their time to watch a women’s film”.

Piers Morgan delved into the topic of Hollywood celebrities and their reluctance to speak out on controversial issues, particularly when it may jeopardize their careers. He highlighted the glaring silence of stars during the Israel-Hamas conflict, raising questions about the authenticity of their previous political pronouncements.

Morgan pointed out that while it may be safe for celebrities to denounce figures like Donald Trump, venturing into more divisive territory, such as the Israel-Hamas war, is where their true convictions are tested. The fear of alienating half their audience or facing backlash from the industry often leads them to stay silent on contentious issues.
